Manchester City
4-4-3

Much to the annoyance of thousands of Dream Team managers, Pep Guardiola often rotates his starting XI.

Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero were only named on the bench at the London Stadium as Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus were preferred.

Despite Jesus opening his account for the season, Aguero, who scored 30 goals last season, could come in for the Brazilian.

And Guardiola could lean towards Bernardo ahead of Mahrez, despite seeing the Algeria captain perform impressively throughout the win over West Ham.

Apart from Ederson’s superb double save to deny Javier Hernandez and Manuel Lanzini, City’s defence was rarely troubled and handled the Hammers’ club-record signing Sebastien Haller well.

This means we’re likely to see John Stones continue alongside Aymeric Laporte in the middle of the backline.

Tottenham
4-4-2 diamond

Jan Vertonghen was a shock omission from Tottenham’s matchday squad for their win over Villa.

Pochettino put his absence down to tactical reasons as reports later claimed the Belgium defender was ‘fuming’ with the axe.

Tottenham’s defence looked vulnerable at times and the tried and tested partnership with Vertonghen and Alderweireld could thwart City’s star-studded attack.

Spurs’ record signing Tanguy Ndombele scored on his debut and is likely to keep his place in a diamond midfield with Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen, who could replace Erik Lamela.

Eriksen started on the bench against Villa, but his 64th-minute introduction helped turn the game for Tottenham.

Harry Kane, who scored on the opening day of the season for the first time, is expected to partner Lucas Moura up front.

Meanwhile, there could be a place on the bench for deadline-day signing Giovani Lo Celso.
